McDonnell adds Northern Virginia business leaders to university boards

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Friday appointees to public university boards of visitors, a list that includes several Northern Virginia business leaders.

? W. Bruce Jennings, owner of Fairfax City Self Storage, joins the board of Christopher Newport University.

? McLean?s Stephen L. Mobley, program manager for Thompson Reuters Corp., and Robert S. Wertz Jr., Loudoun County?s commissioner of revenue, will join the board of Longwood University.

? Retired Col. Byron Cherry of Woodbridge, CEO of Succeed to Lead LLC, was appointed to the Norfolk State University board.

? Frederick S. Humphries Jr., Microsoft Corp.?s D.C.-based vice president of U.S. government affairs, will join the board of Virginia State University.

The appointees did not necessarily graduate from the schools they will now serve. Humphries, for example, graduated from Morehouse College and the Temple University School of Law.

Michael Neibauer covers economic development, chambers of commerce, transportation and politics.
