Alistair Overeem conquered 19 of his 36 wins via submissions, eight of them with a guillotine chokes. Besides that, he has earned an ADCC trial with three wins using that same coup. In the UFC, he debuted with a knockout over Brock Lesnar, but may use that weapon against Junior ?Cigano? dos Santos, on May 26.
Jiu-Jitsu coach of the heavyweight champion, Ramon Lemos told TATAME that Junior is doing fine on the ground and that the guillotine choke is not the greatest danger Overeem can bring to this bout.
?He submitted Vitor Belfort with a guillotine choke, but we have to have this in mind: to get to a choke, Cigano has to take him down or he has to take Cigano down. To take Cigano down he needs to dodge from Cigano?s hands first. It?s not something easy to do?, analyzes Ramon.
?People haven?t seen Cigano?s Jiu-Jitsu and his offensive takedowns. When you see it, you?ll see he is a complete athlete. And I?ll tell you something: Dos Santos might surprise Overeem and submit him in this fight?.
Showing much confidence about the fighter, who is undefeated in the UFC, Ramon says the x factor in this fight will be once again the champion?s hands.
?I don?t see Overeem fighting two rounds against Cigano. Cigano will punch him and he?s going down?, states, predicting a long reign for Junior. ?What Anderson (Silva) did in the UFC is what Cigano is up to. He?s gonna shock the world. People haven?t seen half what Cigano is. Dorea built him to be a champion?.
Team wants Anderson training with Cigano
Anderson Silva and Junior dos Santos keep, along with Jose Aldo, Brazil in the top of the world in the UFC, but they are going to have tough challenges ahead of them. ?Spider? is defending his title against Chael Sonnen in June, while the heavyweight faces Alistair Overeem in May. To get there sharp, their team wants them to train together.
?I?ll do anything for them to train together in Bahia or in Rio de Janeiro. I?ll talk to Dorea and we?ll figure a way out?, reveals Ramon Lemos, Jiu-Jitsu coach of the champions.
Ramon tells that Anderson has already started training in the United States, at Black House, but affirms he hasn?t geared gait.
?Some of his injuries are better, he?s not feeling so much pain, so he?s just keeping his good conditioning. When it?s three months before the fight we?re preparing him for war?, explains.
About the fight against Chael Sonnen, the black belt does not believe there will be news about their first bout, in 2010.
?We have a game plan set. We know all about Chael Sonnen weapons and I believe he?s not changing his game plan. His game plan will be punching him and taking him down?, said.
?Anderson will be ready to stand-up and ready to work the takedowns. We train him to be a champion. I guess it?s not likely that Anderson plays Sonnen?s game. We know about Anderson?s experience, we know he can leads the show?.
